One of the things I get the most in e-mails is, “I have no idea what to wear!” Don’t worry…during your session-planning consultation, I will go over this with you in detail! While every woman is different and I give unique, personalized recommendations for everyone, I wanted to give a quick rundown of some of the best options!
Before we get into it, keep these things in mind:
- Your shoot is about YOU – make sure whatever you wear is something you feel amazing in.
- Size matters! If you’re looking for something with cups, make sure you know your size for the brand you’re wearing.
- Let your outfit highlight your best assets!
Here goes – the new Boudoir by Wallflower Top 10 Things to Wear!
10. Corsets
Let’s start this list off right with a well-known boudoir staple – the corset! Sure, they’re not the most comfortable things in the world, but there’s no denying how good they look, right? The key to the corset is to make sure it’s sized appropriately so you can lace it up tight and still have a couple inches left open in the back. Need help getting laced in? Who doesn’t? Just say the word and I’ll get you cinched up right.
9. Accessories
Accessories can add a little touch of flair to style up your shoot! My biggest tip here is to not over-do it. When you accessorize your outfits, you want them to enhance – not distract from – what you’ve already got going on. Some pieces to consider:
- Garter
- Garter belt (important difference!)
- Jewelry – pearls, a special necklace, and definitely your ring!
- Leggings (sheer or fishnet)
- Bridal accessories
- Heels (high heels, ladies! Any heels under 2″ are flats, and flats are useless)
The list could go on for days, but adding a little something here and there can go a long way in personalizing your session.
8. Baby Dolls/Chemises
There’s no lingerie with more variety than baby dolls and chemises! I group them together because the only real difference is that baby dolls flow out under the bust line and chemises line your body’s shape. They come in solid and/or sheer, so you can show off as much or as little as you’d like!
7. Teddies
A teddy is basically the lingerie version of a one-piece swimsuit or leotard, and they can do an amazing job of showing off all the right things. From solid coverage to barely there, you can find a teddy style that will highlight anything you’d like to!
6. Be someone else!
Showing off a side of yourself that you don’t usually see can be a lot of fun! Have a soft spoken, quiet personality? Find an outfit that’s bold and edgy and let your inner wild child come out for awhile! Used to wearing loud colors and being the life of the party? Add an outfit into your session that’s soft and demure. If you’re giving your album as a gift, this can really add to the surprise!
5. Be yourself!
Let your session tell your story, too! Are you a country girl? Broncos fan? Sporty girl? You’re beautiful because of who you are, and incorporating that into your shoot can be a lot of fun! From yoga pants and a sports bra to a tied-off crop top, if it’s you and you love it, let’s make it happen!
4. Dress to kill
From short and sexy to long and elegant, adding in your favorite date night outfit is always a great idea! Make part of your session all about beauty portraits – you’ll already be styled up with stunning hair and makeup, so this is the perfect time to get the shot that will hang on your wall for years to come.
3. Relax
Weekend-wear, cute jeans, comfy sweaters, an off-the-shoulder burnout t-shirt…all great alternatives to lingerie. Imagine sipping coffee on your private balcony at a resort in the Caribbean, put that feeling into an outfit, and you’ve got the makings for something beautiful! Some of my favorite outfits are as comfy as they are sexy, and if you feel great you’re going to look great!
2. Bra and Panty Sets
Don’t forget the simple answer. You can go totally casual and be the next Aerie poster girl or you can give Candice Swanpoel a run for her money in Victoria’s Secret’s latest offering. Don’t forget to look outside the box, too – Agent Provocateur, Aubade, Cosabella, Kiki de Montparnasse, and Dita Von Teese’s collection all have styles that scream sexy!
The perfect fit is the most important thing! Too big and the girls won’t be at their best…too small and the pieces will cut into your skin – take your time when selecting bra/panty sets for your shoot, and the rewards will definitely be worth it!
1. Nothing!
Who says I’m not budget-conscious? Nude and implied nude photos can be some of the most empowering parts of your shoot! Whether you want to still keep covered with a sheet and creative posing or show off the body you’re proud of, sometimes the best outfit is none at all.
